Assistant Project Manager

The Assistant Project Manager position is responsible for supporting Project Managers and Project Superintendents for the projects assigned to them. Working with the Project Manager and Superintendent, in daily administrative management and documentation of the construction project. Responsibilities include mentoring and training other Project Engineers and Assistants, reviewing and tracking submittals, requesting supplemental design information, updating design documents, as well as gathering and tracking project costs

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Delegate responsibilities effectively and maintain accountability across the project teams.

  • Evaluate the work of engineers and field managers assigned to the project and provide performance feedback and coaching to the project team.

  • Share expert-level knowledge of business processes and best practices with team members and mentor others in developing project management expertise.

  • Foster strong teamwork orientation and be a resource for valuing and promoting collaboration.

  • Staffing and Strategic Planning:

  • Participate in PM/Field Ops Status Meetings and report on current and upcoming staffing needs for office and field staff.

  • Review RFPs for staff availability and resource availability.

  • Provide input to the Project Decisions Group regarding R|MILLER’s capacity to pursue projects and which teams and individuals are available.

  • Administer client contracts, and other job initiation paperwork

  • Responsible for field and project engineering, quality control, contract administration, shop drawing review, submittals, scheduling, and related support functions.

  • Change order management – administrating, pricing, submission and tracking.

  • Assist Project Superintendent and Project Manager in establishing the construction plan and engineering methods.

  • Coach and mentor project engineer and assistants.

  • Assist with equipment selection and rental coordination.

  • Material procurement and expediting.

  • Coordinate and review drawings, submissions, specifications, changes and document control.

  • Assist with the preparation and maintenance of the project schedule and costing system.

  • Prepare and track progress payments and estimates.

  • Subcontract administration – defining scope of work, answering inquiries, monitoring progress, tracking and processing payments.

  • Designing temporary works and inspection. Inventory control – monitoring and tracking of equipment and resources.

  • Participate in Bid/RFP process

  • Conduct complete and accurate quantity take-offs; ensure correct materials and quantities arrive in a timely manner

  • Prepare and distribute accurate meeting minutes

  • Assemble close-out information including as-builts, warranties, etc.

  • Set up and maintain RFI, submittal and sketch logs

  • Support Project Superintendents with updating and/or distributing paperwork and information

  • Prepare electronic and paper job close out information for clients

  • Ensure all permits are valid, on site and posted.

  • Prepare letter of transmittal, log and monitor to expedite and trace progress.

  • Prepare notification of subcontractor pre-qualification results for project manager; perform required follow up with subcontractors.

REQUIREMENTS

  • 5+ years of experience in construction workeragement working directly on a project providing expertise across a broad scope of work.

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Construction Workeragement, or an Engineering discipline is a plus.

  • Candidates who have demonstrated independent work experience on commercial projects up to $30 million are preferred.

  • Demonstrated leadership, communication and interpersonal skills are a must.

  • Experience with Dexter & Chaney Spectrum v14 a plus

  • Proficiency in MS Office, Auto-CAD, REVIT, Sketch-Up and OnScreen Take-Off knowledge a plus

  • Other specialized experience or accreditations preferred, e.g. MEP or LEED

  • Excellent written, verbal and other interpersonal communication skills - communication is a large part of what we do

  • A positive attitude and ability to work well with others – we like to have fun

  • Adaptable – you work well under pressure and adapt quickly to different situations / work environments

  • Willingness to learn and openness to new ideas.

  • Ability to multi-task and maintain a professional demeanor with distractions and interruptions
